Quote: Ursula K. Le Guin

“ . . . she obeys me, but only because she wants to.”
“It’s the only justification for obedience,” Ged observed.

An exchange between Ged and Tenar from Tehanu, the fourth book in Le Guin’s Earthsea series. (I understood it to be the last book, but apparently there’s now a fifth; dang.) It is a bizarre book, the premise apparently being to broach some ideas Le Guin had become more lately interested in, such as gender roles. Regardless, the aging wizard makes an excellent point.
