Quote: Gregory Benford
If you are losing at a game, change the game.
Benford wrote a short story called “A Hunger for the Infinite,” totally strange, for a compilation called Far Horizons by Robert Silverberg. Silverberg solicited a number of prominent science fiction authors to “add a chapter” to universes they had already created, and this was Benford’s contribution for his Galactic Center series.
I have not read the series, and I only half want to after reading the short, which was excellent, but totally nuts. But this line is one of my favorites from any work, and something I use often (I borrowed it in my Banshee articles), because it briefly states what amounts to my entire philosophy of competitive play, and in fact much of life.
